This affordable lodge safari takes you to three of the best game parks on Tanzania's famous Northern Safari Circuit. Embark on 4x4 game drives in Lake Manyara National park, famed for its bird-life and tree climbing lions, Ngorongoro Crater, and Tarangire National Park in just five days. This will be an unforgettable journey of scenic, wildlife, and cultural highlights in game-rich East Africa.
Day 1: Dar Es Salaam/JRO to Arusha
You will be arriving in Dar es Salaam Airport and connecting to Kilimanjaro or Arusha Airport depending on your international flight arrival. You will be met by our safari driver and drive to Arusha Crown Hotel/Karibu Heritage House where you booked for the night on bed and breakfast.
Day 2: Arusha to Tarangire- 2 hrs
You will be picked up from your hotel in Arusha at 0900am and drive on a tarmac road 120km to Tarangire National Park (2,850 sq km or 1,005 sq mile's) for game drives. You will have a picnic lunch and continue with afternoon game viewing in the park. Over 450 species of birds have been observed here. This park has the greatest concentration of wildlife outside the Serengeti ecosystem; a smorgasbord for predators and the one place in Tanzania where dry-country antelope such as the stately fringe-eared Oryx and peculiar long-necked gerenuk are regularly observed. The swamps, tinged green year round, are the focus for 550 bird varieties, the most breeding species in one habitat anywhere in the world. On drier ground you find the Kori bustard, the heaviest flying bird, the stocking-thigh ostrich, the world's largest bird, and small parties of ground hornbills blustering like turkeys. Dinner and overnight will be at the lodge.
Day 3: Tarangire National Park to Lake Manyara (70km-1hour)
Have breakfast at 0700am. You will be picked up from the lodge at 0800am and drive on a tarmac road 70km with a lunch box to Lake Manyara National Park (330 sq km or 127 sq mile's) on the base of the Great Rift Valley. Here you will go for for the afternoon game drives. Lake Manyara provides the perfect introduction to Tanzania's bird-life. More than 400 species have been recorded, and even a first-time visitor to Africa might reasonably expect to observe 100 of these in one day. Highlights include thousands of pink-hued flamingos on their perpetual migration, as well as other large water birds such as pelicans, cormorants, and storks. Around 350 species of birds have been recorded. This small park also contains five distinct vegetation zones, thus supporting a large variety of birds and animals. In this park canoeing has recently been added to the tourist activities in this park at extra cost. Overnight will be at the lodge.
Day 4: Lake Manyara National Park-Ngorongoro Crater Floor/Arusha (60km – 45 minutes)
Wake up early in the morning for breakfast and then at 0730 hours, drive to Ngorongoro Crater where you will descend into the Crater floor (19.2 km of diameter, 610m deep, 304 sq km) for game drives. All the big five animals live in this wonderful caldera. Break for lunch at Ngoitoktok spring picnic sites before continuing the adventure. Ngorongoro Crater is often called 'Africa's Eden', and the '8th Natural Wonder of the World'. The crater is actually a massive extinct volcano with its towering tree lined walls dropping thousands of feet to a "Noah's Ark" of animals on the verdant floor below. This breathtaking oasis provides a haven for both predators and prey to live among grasslands, fresh springs, and the large soda lake. Nowhere else can such a diversity of wildlife be experienced in such a short period of time. After lunch proceed with an afternoon game viewing while ascending the crater and driving back to Twiga Lodge/campsite for dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Arusha/ Namanga Border
Breakfast is at 0700am. Pick up your packed lunch and drive to Arusha or Namanga border for the next destination.
